The ASEANAPOL Secretariat has formally launched a strategic awareness campaign aimed at educating Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) personnel about the Secretariat’s mandate, its physical location in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the vital role of regional police cooperation in combating transnational crimes.
The inaugural activity was conducted on 13 June 2025 at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Segamat, Johor, marking the beginning of a series of engagements across RMP training institutions. The initiative was spearheaded by Executive Director Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, as a game-changing approach to strengthen awareness that modern policing requires collaboration beyond national borders. Given the transnational nature of organized crime, ASEAN police forces must build strategic partnerships, share intelligence, and coordinate efforts to effectively safeguard their respective populations.
The awareness campaign was attended by 250 cadet trainees (101 male and 149 female) currently undergoing basic training, along with 246 officers and staff comprising senior officers, lower-ranking members, and civil servants of PULAPOL Segamat.
The ASEANAPOL Secretariat delegation was led by Police Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Director for Police Services, accompanied by Deputy Superintendent Abdul Hamid Bin Abdul Hashim, Police Services Officer I; KPL Sabkiriman Bin Zabidin and KPL Faras Safwan Bin Roslih, both from the Plans and Programmes Division. The campaign was conducted under the direct guidance of Executive Director Vinluan, reflecting his commitment to deepening engagement with the host country’s law enforcement personnel.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by Superintendent Airy Zaidi Nordin, Commander of PULAPOL Segamat, along with a full roster of training leaders including Deputy Superintendent Arba’ahtul Arnida Adam (Deputy Commandant), ASP Norhazam Abdul Sani (Adjutant), ASP Norazlan Haji Limat (Head of Logistics and Technology), ASP Saiful Abdul Karim (Inspector IT Unit), and several other academic and operational officers.
The day’s program featured a courtesy call with senior officers, anthem singing, an ASEANAPOL presentation and briefing, a Q&A session, a token exchange, and a closing luncheon.
This campaign was the result of a formal request submitted by the Executive Director to the Inspector General of the Royal Malaysia Police on 6 February 2025, which was approved and coordinated with several RMP training centers. PULAPOL Segamat was selected as the first venue for implementation.
While ASEANAPOL serves all ten ASEAN Member Countries, its Secretariat, operating from Kuala Lumpur since 2010 under the generous hosting of the RMP, remains less known to many rank-and-file personnel. This outreach campaign directly addresses that gap, ensuring that Malaysian police officers fully understand the strategic importance of ASEANAPOL’s presence within their national capital and its role in enhancing regional law enforcement capacity.
The Secretariat extends its sincere appreciation to the leadership and personnel of PULAPOL Segamat for their warm reception and active participation. Similar campaigns will follow in other PULAPOL campuses across Malaysia to sustain the momentum of regional awareness and operational cooperation.
