On 22 September 2021, Executive Director of ASEANAPOL Secretariat, DAC Jim Wee, joined and delivered his presentation “Amplifying Action in Counter Wildlife Trafficking: How to leverage regional and national efforts through Partnership”, on The Regional Counter Wildlife Trafficking Partnership Forum from 21-23 September, 2021.
The Regional Counter Wildlife Trafficking Partnership Forum is a virtual event co-hosted by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Thailand, and USAID Wildlife Asia in collaboration with WWF, the ASEAN Secretariat, Asian Development Bank, World Bank Global Wildlife Program, Global Environment Facility, and United Nations Development Program. The Forum has brought together key Counter Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) partners and stakeholders in Asia and beyond to strengthen collaboration, planning and cooperation towards protecting biodiversity and ending the trade in illegal wildlife as we enter a post-pandemic landscape.
Programme session topics include;
• Focus on the importance of partnership approach in furthering the CWT Movement and the resulting legacy impacts and initiatives;
• Focus on sustaining and strengthening the CWT movement by networking at the regional, national and local levels, and the importance and role of regional and national institutions, leaders, and champions;
• Partner Dialogue with focus on the current CWT landscape, the impacts of COVID, priorities in a post-COVID world, partner plans, and opportunities to strengthen coordination mechanisms moving forward, including a presentation highlighting the outcomes of the Development Partner discussions.
Executive Director of ASEANAPOL Secretariat, through the presentation hope that the continuation of being involved in networking with various CWT organization has to be actively continued as the platform allows concerted effort for the Police to work on information sharing received and likewise for their verification with other CWT partners, in support of the investigation against the Organized Crime Syndicates out there that are using the grey areas for the illicit wildlife trading.
