The ASEANAPOL Training Cooperation Meeting (ATCM) resumed after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The meeting brought together representatives from 09 ASEANAPOL Member Countries (AMCs), 06 Dialogue Partners (DPs), and 04 Observers. The Indonesian National Police (INP) expressed regret for their inability to attend the event. The ASEANAPOL Secretariat was represented by Pol. Snr. Lt. Col. Nguyen Huu Ngoc, Director for Plans and Programs (DPP), and DSP Suresh Subramaniam, Plans & Programmes officer I (PPO I).
The meeting provided an opportunity for exchanging experiences, best practices, and the results of cooperation in training and capacity-building programs. During the session with AMCs, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat’s DPP updated AMCs on training cooperation, including proposed plans and resolutions. The Secretariat compiled reports on training initiatives and needs from the Head of Delegation of the AMCs to create a comprehensive training calendar tailored to specific needs. At a plenary meeting with all participants, the Secretariat proposed centralizing training coordination for streamlined processes to combat transnational crime. DPs and OBs shared their policing capabilities and upcoming courses for AMCs, emphasizing closer cooperation. Based on that, the Secretariat aligned AMCs' training needs with the planned courses of DPs and OBs.
The participants reached a consensus on the Secretariat's proposal to enhance training coordination for streamlined processes and effective translation of knowledge into operations. The two-day meeting ended with an announcement by the Chairperson - Pol. Brig. Gen You Boren, Head of NCB Interpol Phnom Penh - that the 12th ATCM meeting will be hosted by the Laos Police Force in Laos PDR in 2024.
