WORKING VISIT BY NCB/INTERPOL OF ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE TO ASEANAPOL SECRETARIAT

On April 26, 2024, the NCB/INTERPOL Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) sent a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur. The delegation, led by Assistant Director NCB/INTERPOL Superintendent Saravanan Kanniappan and Deputy Superintendent Mohd Zuhaili bin Saleh, DSP D12 NCB/INTERPOL, aimed to sustain the existing framework of cooperation between both organizations.
Upon arrival, the NCB/INTERPOL RMP delegation was warmly greeted by Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, the Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bakri bin Haji Zainal Abidin, Director for Police Services, and other secretariat officers.
ASEANAPOL, the ASEAN National Police, serves as a platform for police cooperation among the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). With a mission to enhance regional police cooperation and collaboration, ASEANAPOL addresses transnational crime, maintains peace and security, and promotes the rule of law within the ASEAN region. Envisioning a safe and secure ASEAN community, ASEANAPOL emphasizes close collaboration among law enforcement agencies, utilizing shared resources, information, and expertise to effectively combat crime and uphold justice. Its core areas of focus include combating transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, and organized crime through cooperation and information sharing among member countries' police forces. Additionally,
ASEANAPOL is committed to enhancing the capabilities and professionalism of law enforcement agencies through capacity building initiatives, community policing, and public safety efforts. Furthermore, it actively engages in counter-terrorism measures, drug control operations, and cybercrime prevention strategies to safeguard individuals, businesses, and critical infrastructure from threats.
By prioritizing these core areas, ASEANAPOL strives to promote regional security, uphold the rule of law, and create a safer and more prosperous ASEAN community for all its citizens. In conclusion, ASEANAPOL plays a vital role in fostering collaboration and coordination among law enforcement agencies across ASEAN, contributing to the advancement of regional security and the well-being of its member nations.
