From 12 to 15 September 2024, a delegation from the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, led by Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan, attended a Pre-Coordination Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, in preparation for the 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference, scheduled for 21-24 October 2024. The Myanmar Police Force (MPF) hosted the meeting, with participation from the Laos Police Force and the Royal Thai Police, representing past and future ASEANAPOL conference hosts. The team also travelled from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw to review logistical and security preparations.
On 13 September, the meeting opened with remarks from Police Major General Aung Naing Thu of the MPF, who emphasized the importance of cooperation and active participation. Representatives from the Laos Police Force shared valuable insights from their experience organizing the 41st ASEANAPOL Conference, while the MPF presented their planned agenda for the upcoming conference. This exchange of experiences helped identify best practices and improve planning for the event in October.
On 14 September, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat team, along with representatives from MPF, LPF, and RTP, conducted site inspections at the planned venues for the conference. The team evaluated the security, accommodation, and communication infrastructure to ensure the event’s success. A survey of the alternate land route between Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon was also carried out to assess contingency plans for transportation.
In conclusion, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat commended the Myanmar Police Force for their excellent planning and organization ahead of the conference. While the preparations were thorough, recommendations were submitted to enhance technical and logistical aspects. The 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference is expected to foster stronger cooperation among ASEAN police forces and set a high standard for future events, contributing significantly to regional law enforcement collaboration.
