On December 5, 2024, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, led by Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan and staff, participated in the inaugural virtual meeting of the INTERPOL Global Analysis and Intelligence Network (I-GAIN).

This event was coordinated and organized by the INTERPOL Criminal Analysis Sub-directorate in Lyon, France, a Dialogue Partner of ASEANAPOL since 2012. The meeting commenced with opening remarks from Mr. Hippert William, Assistant Director of the Criminal Analysis Sub-directorate (OSA/CAS), who welcomed participants from INTERPOL member countries, regional police organizations, and other partners.

The I-GAIN initiative seeks to fortify INTERPOL’s partnership with its member countries and ASEANAPOL, focusing on criminal intelligence analysis. The initiative aims to facilitate targeted exchanges and in-depth analysis on specific threats or crime-related issues with a limited geographic or thematic scope. The I-GAIN network aspires to establish and sustain an international consortium of criminal analysis experts. Its core objectives are to enhance capacity by strengthening the ability of member countries and organizations to anticipate, identify, assess, and counter emerging global and regional criminal threats. Additionally, it aims to produce actionable intelligence by delivering timely and practical criminal intelligence and analysis for the benefit of member countries and partners. Finally, it seeks to facilitate knowledge sharing by promoting the exchange of best practices and fostering professional development among network members.

The network’s activities are governed by comprehensive Terms of Reference (TOR), ensuring alignment with applicable regulations and INTERPOL’s organizational mandate. Through its active involvement in I-GAIN, ASEANAPOL reaffirms its commitment to enhancing regional collaboration and supporting INTERPOL’s critical efforts to combat transnational crime. By working together, ASEANAPOL and INTERPOL aim to create a safer and more secure region for all, contributing to global peace and security efforts.
