The ASEANAPOL Secretariat actively participated in the Asia International Security Conference and Expo 2025 (AISSE’25), held from January 20 to 22, 2025, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Malaysia. Hosted by the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), ASEANAPOL Secretariat, and private sector partners, the inaugural event served as a platform to advance regional security cooperation and technological innovations in law enforcement.
The Secretariat’s delegation was led by Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan, alongside Director for Police Services Police Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Director for Plans and Programmes Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc, and Police Service Officers Abdul Hamid Abdul Hashim and Nithia Perumal. Other ASEANAPOL Secretariat personnel also engaged in discussions and activities throughout the three-day event.
AISSE’25 commenced with keynote addresses by Dato’ Seri Saifuddin Nasution and Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid, emphasizing the importance of regional collaboration and modern technology in combating cybercrime and cross-border threats. They called for the adoption of AI-driven security solutions and real-time surveillance while ensuring a balance between security and privacy rights.
As part of its active engagement, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat participated in key panel discussions addressing emerging security challenges in ASEAN. On January 20, 2025, Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc spoke in Fire Chat Session 7, focusing on digital technology’s role in transnational crime and strategies to mitigate these threats. On January 21, 2025, Executive Director Vinluan took part in Fire Chat Session 12, discussing the future of cybercrime prevention through innovation and collaboration. The sessions, featuring esteemed panelists from law enforcement, cybersecurity, and the private sector, explored forward-looking solutions to address cyber threats.
Furthering its commitment to international cooperation, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat also engaged in a bilateral meeting with representatives from the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Discussions focused on capacity-building initiatives and AFP’s role as an ASEANAPOL Dialogue Partner, a relationship formalized in 2008. Executive Director Vinluan reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to facilitating training and knowledge-sharing among ASEANAPOL Member Countries, while AFP representatives, led by Commander Warwick Macfarlane, underscored the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) as a key hub for law enforcement training in transnational organized crime.
To further promote ASEANAPOL’s mission and initiatives, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat maintained a dedicated booth in the expo hall, serving as a continuing awareness campaign to introduce ASEANAPOL to all attendees. The booth provided visitors with information on ASEANAPOL’s role in regional law enforcement, its ongoing programs, and opportunities for collaboration, reinforcing its presence among global security stakeholders.
With the theme “Asia United: Charting the Future of Global Peace and Security through Law Enforcement Collaboration”, AISSE’25 brought together over 300 security organizations and industry leaders from 48 countries, including Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Latvia, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, and Australia. Prominent security companies such as Advance Jupiter, Blackberry, CREST, Dataport Technologies, EC-Council, Eunomia Traffic, Gasmet Technologies (Asia) Ltd, Germonizer, Magnet Forensic, and Samsung participated in exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge security solutions.
AISSE’25 successfully solidified its status as a premier platform for law enforcement collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technological advancements. The ASEANAPOL Secretariat remains dedicated to strengthening regional security partnerships, enhancing capacity-building efforts, and leveraging emerging technologies to combat transnational organized crime, ensuring a safer and more resilient ASEAN region.
