Quezon City, Philippines — May 8, 2025. The Philippine National Police (PNP) welcomed Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, as a special guest on the nationally televised and online public service program “Sumbong N’yo, Aksyon Agad!”—a noontime initiative aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and public engagement.
The program, which translates to “Your Complaints, Immediate Action!” in English, serves as a direct platform for citizens to report complaints, raise concerns, or extend commendations to the PNP. With live broadcast segments hosted by Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, Police Colonel Clair Ballesteros, and Police Lieutenant Colonel (Atty.) Edgard Cuñanan Jr., the show exemplifies the PNP’s commitment to prompt action and responsive policing. The program is produced in partnership with UNTV, one of the Philippines’ leading multimedia networks.
During his guest appearance, Executive Director Vinluan presented the regional awareness campaign “Avoid Job Scams: V.E.R.I.F.Y.”—an evidence-based educational video aimed at protecting job seekers from fraudulent employment schemes. The campaign was developed by students of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia) under the academic guidance of Prof. Dr. Cheah Phaik Kin, as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative.
This project is a joint undertaking of the ASEAN Chiefs of National Police (ASEANAPOL) and the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation, in collaboration with international partners including PolicingTV (UK), the Global Foundation for Community Safety Volunteering (UK), and the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Virginia (USA).
The V.E.R.I.F.Y. video draws from real-life scam tactics and research-backed strategies to help viewers critically assess job offers. It teaches users to validate offers through a step-by-step process designed to ensure safety and legitimacy before engaging in any recruitment process.
Executive Director Vinluan’s participation not only strengthened cross-border cooperation but also underscored ASEANAPOL’s dedication to regional public safety and crime prevention through education and strategic partnerships.
The segment highlighted how joint public education campaigns—backed by academic, civil society, and law enforcement collaboration—can empower communities and reinforce the mission of modern, citizen-centered policing.
