ASEANAPOL and Korean National Police Agency Strengthen Cooperation Against Scams

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 27 August 2026

At 16:00 hrs. on 27 August 2026, Police Senior Colonel Dr. Kongkrissada Kittithiraphong, Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, together with Police Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Director of Police Services, and Police Colonel Jean Mary Mangahis, Director of Plan and Programmes, welcomed Senior Superintendent Kim Byung Joo of the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) and his delegation to the ASEANAPOL Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation under the KARE Programme and its contribution to regional efforts to combat scams and related transnational crime.

Dr. Kongkrissada reaffirmed ASEANAPOL’s readiness to support KARE activities within the framework of the ASEANAPOL Plan of Action to Eliminate Scams (2026–2029). The Plan brings together key initiatives, including the ASEANAPOL Scam Combat Task Force (ASCOT), regional Study Visits on Anti-Scam Centre Practices, and KARE activities, to strengthen practical cooperation, capacity building, and information sharing among ASEAN law enforcement agencies and partners.

Both sides discussed how KARE could complement these initiatives and further strengthen practical cooperation between the KNPA and ASEAN Member Countries in addressing evolving scam threats across the region.
