The ASEANAPOL Secretariat participated in the Lancang-Mekong Anti-Money Laundering Forum, co-organised by the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center (LMLECC) and the Digital and Intelligent Finance Research Institute of Hangzhou.
Representing ASEANAPOL, Police Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Director for Police Service, delivered a presentation highlighting regional efforts to combat transnational organised crime, particularly the links between industrial-scale scam operations, human trafficking, telecommunications fraud and money laundering. The presentation also emphasised ASEANAPOL's role in facilitating operational cooperation and information sharing through its e-ADS platform, in collaboration with INTERPOL and UNODC.
The Forum brought together law enforcement agencies, financial regulators, international organisations and private-sector representatives to exchange experiences and explore strategies to address emerging financial crimes, cryptocurrency-related money laundering and technology-driven criminal activities.
Key outcomes included discussions on strengthening information sharing between LMLECC, ASEANAPOL's e-ADS platform and financial regulators, as well as enhancing regional cooperation through Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) and expedited asset-freezing mechanisms.
ASEANAPOL's participation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional partnerships, enhancing cross-border information exchange and promoting coordinated efforts to combat transnational financial crimes.
